The Military Medal ranks second among all French decorations, giving priority only to the Legion of Honor (and with the exception also of the Order of Liberation). He may be granted for eight years' military service, by virtue of a summons, to be wounded in combat and for acts of valor and a sense of duty.
This specimen is from the time of the Third Republic, between 1870 and 1951.
